This page has been developed to provide our Wheelchair Rugby
nations with information about the London 2012 Paralympics. While
there is an emphasis on some of the key information that will help
teams that have qualified, it will also provide advice for those
people who wish to attend and be involved as well.
London 2012 Paralympics
The Olympics and Paralympics
are the largest sporting event in the world, and will be staged in London
in 2012. The Olympic Park has been developed in the Stratford area
of London, and will host thousands of people throughout July,
August and September. Wheelchair Rugby will be based in the
fantastic basketball arena with competition taking place from the
5th to the 9th of September. It will be the only sport based in the
basketball arena during this period. We fully expect to see the 10,000 seats
being filled to view our dynamic sport.
Tickets
After the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games
(LOCOG) closed its ticket window for the 2012 Paralympic Games it
was great news for the sport. The whole five-day Wheelchair Rugby
competition has been a sell-out ensuring those teams that have
qualified will receive a loud and warm welcome.
Following unprecedented interest a year out from the London 2012
Paralympic Games, 800,000 tickets were allocated to more than
100,000 people through September’s initial public application
phase. Including sales to international visitors and other client
groups such as sponsors, over one million tickets have now been
sold for the Paralympic Games.
There are still Olympic Park Day Passes available, but each
applicable venue is on a first come first served basis, so seats
can run out. You can use the Olympic Park Day Pass for sessions of
Wheelchair Rugby with the exception of the final, which is for
session ticket holders only.
This is the only option available to purchase tickets. The sales
window will be first come first served, online or by phone,
running from 2nd December to 6th February.

UK residents can purchase tickets during this time as can
European Economic Area (EEA) residents who also have the option to
apply for tickets from their NPCs/Authorised Ticket Resellers (ATRs).
Residents outside the UK and the EEA should continue to purchase
their tickets via their NPCs/ATRs as normal.
Ticket holders who have purchased via the London2012 website
will have the opportunity to resell unwanted tickets at face value
through the official resale programme – details of this will be
announced early in the New Year.
Test Event
The upcoming Wheelchair Rugby Test Event is part of the ‘London
Prepares' program, and is the first time the sport has taken part
in this crucial testing phase. It is a three-day event comprising
of one day training and two days of competition. It will be staged
at the Basketball Arena on April 17th to the 19th, 2012. Although
the Village won’t be open accommodation has been allocated in
close proximity.
A full ‘type A’ panel has been convened for classification as
well as providing an opportunity for our technical officials. The
aim is to allow maximum familiarity for all those selected for the
Paralympics. The Test Event will also see the final selection
process for the twelve Table Officials for games time.
The announcement of those teams attending the Test Event has
been staged for maximum promotion of the sport. It will feature as
part of the London Organizing Committee Olympic Games (LOCOG)
formal program. Please visit this website for an update.
Explanatory Book
The explanatory booklet has now been
developed by LOCOG and outlines the lead up to the games. The
guide provides important information, dates and deadlines for
teams.
Most formal communications
will need to be done through individual National Paralympic
Committees who will have access to the explanatory booklet through
LOCOG’s online resource ‘the exchange’.
