Australia and Japan Grab Final Wheelchair Rugby Spots for London 2012

Australia and Japan’s Wheelchair Rugby teams solidified their places at the London 2012 Paralympic Games on Tuesday (8 November) after finishing first and second, respectively, at the Asia Oceania Championships in Icheon, Korea.

Australia took the event title with a 59-41 victory over Japan in the finals and finished the Championships undefeated, but the Japan’s 47-45 win over New Zealand in the semi-final round was enough to qualify for London 2012. Read More

Denmark to host 2014 IWRF World Championship
Wheelchair Rugby’s sixth World Championship to be held in Odense, Denmark

(Nottwil, Switzerland, 9 October 2011) – The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) has announced that, following a competitive bid process, the city of Odense, Denmark has been selected to host the 2014 IWRF Wheelchair Rugby World Championship. IWRF President John Bishop made the announcement awarding the bid at the conclusion of the 2011 IWRF European Zone Championship in Nottwil, Switzerland. Read More

Sweden Takes Gold at IWRF Wheelchair Rugby European Championship

Sweden proved it really is the best team in Europe by defeating Great Britain to take home the title at last weekend’s International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) European Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland.

In Sunday’s (9 October) final, Sweden beat Great Britain, 49-42 for gold, just after Belgium beat France in a nail-biter, 52-51, to win the bronze.

“If the players stay hungry, we’ll be up for a medal in the Paralympics” Sweden’s manager Marco Dispaltro told the Swedish Paralympic Committee. Read More
