Who We Are
The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) was first
established in 1993, as a sport section of the International Stoke
Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation (ISMWSF), which today is
known as the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports
Federation (IWAS). On January 1, 2010, the International
Wheelchair Rugby Federation became an independent sport federation
and is recognized as the governing body responsible for the sport
of wheelchair rugby internationally
The mission of the IWRF is to inspire and support people
throughout the world to participate in wheelchair rugby.
There are currently twenty-four countries active in
international wheelchair competitions. Many more are developing
the sport domestically and working towards international
competition. The IWRF can assist countries interested in
establishing programs of their own in a number of ways. To request
information on how we can help, please

The IWRF is divided into three geographic zones; the Americas,
Europe, and Asia-Oceania. The affairs of the IWRF are managed by a
volunteer Board of Directors.
