Who We Are
The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) was
first established in 1993,
as a sport section of the International Stoke
Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation (ISMWSF), which today is
known as International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports
(IWAS). On January 1, 2010, the International Wheelchair Rugby
Federation became an independent sport federation of the
International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and is today recognized
as the governing body responsible for the sport of wheelchair
rugby.
The
purpose of the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation
(IWRF) is to help develop, promote and regulate the
sport of Wheelchair Ruby on a global basis.
Currently there are twenty-seven
countries that actively participate in the sport of
wheelchair
rugby, or who are developing programs within their nation. The
IWRF can assist countries interested in establishing programs of
their own in a number of ways. To request information on how we
can help,
