IWRF holds 2012 General Assembly

The IWRF began its 2012 General Assembly and Conference today in Richmond, BC, prior to the upcoming Canada Cup International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament. Representatives from 19 of the 27 full members of IWRF were present for the General Assembly. The Assembly heard reports from the Board, IWRF Zones, and standing committees on progress achieved since the inaugural 2010 General Assembly.
The Board presented the IWRF Strategic Plan 2011-2014 to the membership for approval. This Plan, developed with the assistance of the International Rugby Board, will guide the activities of the IWRF over the quadrennial.
Other motions approved by the Assembly included updates to the IWRF Classification Manual, as well as a proposal to increase the number of teams attending IWRF World Championships beginning in 2018.
The Assembly concluded with elections to the Board of Directors of IWRF. Richard Allcroft of Great Britain joined the Board as a Member at Large, replacing the retiring Joke Beekman. Cathy Cadiex was returned as IWRF Treasurer, along with Terry Vinyard returning as a Member at Large.
IWRF President, John Bishop thanked outgoing Board member Joke Beekman for her 7 years of service to the Federation and sport, and welcomed Richard Allcroft as the newest Board member. "We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of people who willingly vollunteer their time and energy to our sport, and we all look forward to continueing the efforts that will strengthen our Federation" stated Bishop.
The IWRF Conference continues tomorrow with a session on operational and strategic planning for IWRF member nations. Many delegates will remain following the conference to attend the 2012 Canada Cup, which begins on Thursday, June 21 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
