IWRF Completes Strategic Planning Session

The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) has completed a Strategic Planning Conference, building on the success of the previous strategic plan to set a course for the sport of Wheelchair Rugby through 2018.

Hosted in Teddington, England with the assistance and support of World Rugby and Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby, the Planning Conference brought together the IWRF Board of Directors along with the Chairs of the Classification, Competitions, Development, and Technical Committees. During four days, the Conference reviewed IWRF’s performance against the previous strategic plan, assessed key issues and areas of importance to the sport, and developed a new four-year strategic plan.

The Conference reaffirmed IWRF’s mission of “Growing and Supporting the Wheelchair Rugby Family,” and established a new value proposition for the Federation, that “Wheelchair Rugby is an exciting Paralympic Sport that provides inspiring role models and changes lives.”

“In reviewing our progress, we were all very pleased with the success of the previous strategic plan,” said IWRF President John Bishop. “With this new plan, we are excited and energized for the future of our sport, and for the direction this lays out through 2018.

The IWRF would like to acknowledge the great support we received from our sport partner World Rugby and our member Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby, in particular the guidance of our facilitator Steve Griffiths and the assistance of GBWR Chief Executive David Pond.”

Following final review and approval by the IWRF Board of Directors, the new Strategic Plan will be published in March 2015.
