IWRF Zonal Assemblies Set

The dates for each of the three IWRF Zone General Assemblies taking place in 2013 are now set. These important meetings are held every two years in conjunction with Zone Championships, and provide member countries with the opportunity to openly discuss any topics that may impact the future growth and development of Wheelchair Rugby. Dates and locations for the 2013 General Assemblies are as follows:

  • European Zone General Assembly
    August 11, 2013 – Antwerp, Belgium
  • Americas Zone General Assembly
    October 16, 2013 – Birmingham, Alabama USA
  • Asia-Oceania Zone General Assembly
    November 19, 2013 – Pretoria, South Africa

Each Zone Assembly will also include reports from the Zone President and member nations; discussion of motions pertinent to the zone; a presentation of reports and proposals from the IWRF on matters of mutual interest; and the election of zone representatives.

In an effort to ensure effective athlete representation at all levels, a special election will be held to select representatives to serve on the newly established IWRF Athletes Council. This Council will be made up of current and former international wheelchair rugby athletes from all three zones, and will provide a forum for communication and consultation among athletes and the IWRF Board and its Standing Committees. All athletes interested in serving on this council are are encouraged to read the recent Athletes Council Article and to submit a nomination form found HERE.

All member countries and intrested parties, including those who are developing the sport of Wheelchair Rugby, are encouraged to send a delegate to attend these important meetings. Detailed information including a call for nominations, nomination forms, job descriptions for Zone and Athlete Representative positions, etc. can be downloaded HERE.
