Canadian National Team for 2013-2014 Announced


(Vancouver, BC) – After an intense selection camp at the Richmond Olympic Oval, 12 athletes have been named to the Canadian wheelchair rugby senior national team. Seven additional athletes were named to the national squad. 


This year’s senior team consists of:


Cody Caldwell (Cavan, ON)

Patrice Dagenais (Embrun, ON)
Garett Hickling (Kelowna, BC)
Trevor Hirschfield (Parksville, BC)
Fabien Lavoie (Quebec City, QC)
Zak Madell (Okotoks, AB)
Travis Murao (Richmond, BC)
Erika Schmutz (Dunnville, ON)
Patrice Simard (Quebec City, QC)
Mike Whitehead (Harrow, ON)
David Willsie (Dorchester, ON)

“We’re incredibly pleased with the caliber of athletes that attended this selection camp,” said High Performance Director Andy Van Neutegem. “Team Canada is going from strength to strength.”

Head Coach Kevin Orr agreed. “We’ve got a great bunch of athletes who I’m confident will lead us towards our goal of winning gold medals at the 2014 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships and the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.”


The team’s next major competition will be the IWRF 2013 Americas Zone Championships in Birmingham, Alabama from October 14-20. All selected athletes will play this weekend for their club teams at the 14thAnnual Vancouver Invitational Wheelchair Rugby Tournament, which will be held at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
